Unfortunately, there are many types of pain that you can go through. Some pain may be easily treated, while other pain may not. It will depend on several different factors. If you suffer from pain, you will want to figure out what kind of pain you suffer from, and you will want to seek pain care options that will work.

Types of Pain

There are many different types of pain, and they include:

1.   Acute Pain

Acute pain is usually short in duration. It typically can last for a few minutes or up to three months. In some rare cases, the pain may last up to six months. Usually, acute pain is related to a temporary illness or a soft tissue injury. When the injury heals or the illness is recovered from, the pain usually goes away. However, if the pain signals in the body malfunction or the injury does not heal as it should, acute pain may turn into chronic pain. An example of acute pain is spraining your ankle or falling and scraping your knee.

2. Chronic Pain

Chronic pain will last over six months. It can come and go, or the pain can be constant. For example, if you have back pain that lasts for months or years, this will be known as chronic pain. Chronic pain can be due to health conditions like fibromyalgia, spine conditions, and arthritis.

3.   Neuropathic Pain

Neuropathic pain is due to damage to the nervous system and the nerves. This pain is often said to feel like burning, stabbing, shooting, or a pins and needles type feeling. This type of pain can make someone have trouble feeling cold or hot sensation. Neuropathic pain is one of the most common types of chronic pain. For some people, neuropathic pain can be so severe that it makes performing everyday tasks difficult. Some people experience mobility issues because of this type of pain. Other people may only have internment pain. Chronic pain can be caused by many different things, including injuries that did not heal right and diseases like diabetes.

4.   Nociceptive Pain

This type of pain is caused by body tissue damage. It is described as being a throbby, achy, and sharp pain. It is typically caused by an injury. For example, if you twist your ankle or hit your elbow, you will experience nociceptive pain. This can affect tendons, bones, skin, muscles, and joints. This type of pain can be both chronic and acute.

5.   Radicular Pain

When the spinal nerve becomes inflamed or gets compressed, it causes a specific type of pain called radicular pain. Radicular pain will hurt in the back, hip, and legs. There may be muscle weakness, tingling, and numbness felt in the legs. This pain is also known as sciatica. The pain is often steady and is chronic. Sitting and walking can make sciatica worse.

6.   Phantom Pain

Phantom pain occurs when you have been through an amputation and experience pain in the missing limb. Some people experience sharp pain, while others experience mild pain. This type of pain can come and go and may be triggered by touching the amputation area or being in a certain position.
